Running: Progress Update 2

Alright, so I am a little late at posting this. Okay, okay… a lot late. My last update touched on how I went too hard too early and I was feeling a lot of aches and pains, as well as a lot of joint popping (which means some swelling). I updated y’all on Monday 12/11. I took that day and the next off. I was still very uncomfortable on Wednesday but decided I would give working out a try because I had taken 5 days off already. I was feeling antsy and lazy so I decided I would bike, do my hip exercises, as well as a walk on the treadmill. I was hoping my hip would loosen up, but I was wrong. My hip hurt during the bike, which hadn’t happened to me at all before. That night I was in so much pain I could barely sit still and was incredibly worried about the 2 hour plane ride I would be taking the next morning.

I decided I would take my entire holiday trip off. I knew sitting on planes and in cars for hours at a time was going to be hard enough on my hip. The first two plane trips were rough. I was still uncomfortable, but I could feel my hip beginning to ache less. I was beginning to feel more encouraged that I didn’t damage my hip again.

By the time Christmas Eve hit, I wasn’t feeling any more aches and pains. I was still getting an abnormal amount of popping in the joint, but at least the pain was gone. I arrived back home in Chicago on the 26th. I decided on the 27th I’d give working out another try. Today, the 28th, I am feeling a little sore but it isn’t nearly as bad as before.

I now know that I need to give myself a day or two of rest between runs and leg workouts. I am feeling very encouraged. I know it may take a little longer to get where I want to be by moving slower, but that is what my body is telling me I need to do and I am going to listen to it!
